As poor care will lead to poor health, the camp makes sure that only the best and most sanitary nutrition and treatments are provided to all elephants in order to make them stay mentally and physically vigorous. Deworming, which is given to each elephant once in two years, supplementary food and vaccination are some of the basic types of health care that we provide our elephants on a regular basis.

To keep watch on their physical and mental health intimately and constantly, we provide our mahouts, who each have an individual elephant under their responsibility, with knowledge of first aid and disease symptoms to let them help the veterinarian take care of their health and identify their illnesses.

All of our mahouts are qualified by the Livestock Department. Some of the camp’s outstanding health care projects include Estrous Cycle and Heat Detection and the study on the Developing Semen Freezing Technique for Artificial Insemination Project for which the camp was selected as a centre for the study by the Institute of Zoo and Wildlife Research, Berlin (IZW) and the Smithsonian Institute, National Zoological Park,
Convention & Research Centre with the cooperation with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chiang Mai University, Mahidol University and Kasetsart University. For further information regarding the health care management and projects, contact the camp’s full time veterinarian Ronnachit Rungsri (D.V.M) at…
